Alina Smirnova
Alina Smirnova, MD, PhD has been researching medical education since 2013. Her research focuses on the relationship between quality in residency education and quality of care. She defended her PhD at the School of Health Professions Education (SHE) at Maastricht University in 2018 cum laude with the thesis titled “Unpacking Quality in Residency Training and Health Care Delivery”. Since then, in addition to completing her residency training in family medicine at the University of Calgary, she has been researching clinical performance measures in graduate medical education as a consultant on projects funded by the Stemmler Grant fro the NBME and the Collaboratory Grant from the Kern Institute for Transformation in Medical Education.
She is a licensed family physician in Alberta, Canada and is currently a co-supervisor for Sofiya Abedali (PhD Candidate) at the Professional Performance and Compassionate Care research group.
